Foil Dress Task

Foil Dress Task centers around the making of a dress out of aluminum foil, moving so it falls off the body, and then trying to smooth out the foil and return it to its previous state. Five dresses were made and unmade, and it was filmed on a single camera taking 50 minutes. Over the course of the next three years, I kept experimenting to find new ways to orient the footage over itself to create new effects and relationships. The final iteration was made when all the original footage and project file became inaccessible due to the pandemic. But the renders were backed up on Google Drive, leaving me with a collection of three to twenty second segments from the years of experimentation. By editing those together I was left with a glitch monster of a video that indicates a suspension of time through repetitive, almost obsessive activity. Editing wise, the process ended up mirroring the gesture in the video of building, unbuilding, and bringing the ultimately changed parts together.
